What I Love About the Hunter Museum of Art as a Photographer

The museum houses a collection of both indoor and outdoor spaces that are perfect for any fine art styled wedding. Firstly, the River Terrace is the perfect rooftop wedding space overlooking the river for a well curated black tie outdoor wedding celebration like no other. Another space within the museum is the Grand Foyer Lobby that provides an indoor, yet open ceremony space. It also features stone floors, a hanging sculpture, and floor to ceiling windows lending to scenic views of the Tennessee river. Between these two spaces alone, blending modern art and the outdoors combines a perfectly unique, yet effortlessly timeless wedding celebration. Imagine your wedding …

Museum Wedding Ceremony & Reception Spaces

The Grand Foyer Lobby

The Grand Foyer Lobby is a beautifully and naturally lit space inside the Hunter Museum of American Art spaciously hosting a sleek and modern staircase. Also, the large, open windows pristinely house a hanging sculpture serving as a minimalistic, yet eye-catching centerpiece for guests waiting for your ceremony to begin. And finally, the stone floors serve as a welcoming and grounding warmth to the space. All of these carefully thought out elements are the perfect combination for a lovely wedding of almost any size.

The Auditorium

There is a space that the Grand Foyer Lobby opens into. This room is the Auditorium and it serves quite a few important purposes. This space can be reserved for rehearsal dinners, as well as overflow for additional seating for your ceremony in the Grand Foyer Lobby. The Auditorium also provides more space by serving as the reception breakaway dance floor complete with uplighting availability. Additionally, the Auditorium adds extra flair by reducing the need for a room flip, and mitigates inclement weather concerns.

Paley Terrace

The Paley Terrace is smaller but serves the purpose as a great First Look location. It also is a suitable space for family formal photos. The asymmetrical shape adds in a touch of modern art and does a great job of hiding your bridal party away until the ceremony is ready to begin.

24 Hour Terrace

The 24 Hour Terrace is the ideal intimate outdoor wedding space that can be closed off to the public. This location offers a scenic view of the Walnut Street bridge, as well as the nighttime lights of the city. The asymmetrical design of the terrace also follows the theme combining the modern and natural aesthetic of the museum. With gorgeous views of the arches on the Walnut Street Bridge, this location is also perfect for couples’ photos. Another great feature of this terrace is the cover it provides for guests in case of rain on your wedding day.

HAVE PEACE OF MIND KNOWING YOU’LL HAVE PHOTOGRAPHS OF YOUR ONCE IN A LIFETIME MOMENTS

The River Terrace

The Rooftop Terrace overlooking the Tennessee River by day, and serving stunning views of the bright downtown lights by night, is the largest rentable space at the museum. The terrace is a sprawling 8,000 feet, leaving nothing but possibilities to host the most extraordinary outdoor black tie or colorful formal wedding event of the year. From April to June, the space is covered with a clear tent offering just the right amount of privacy, while still giving scenic, open views. Imagine your sunset ceremony overlooking the river. Then, sitting down with your guests to your plated dinner under the stars while the live band plays the night away. This is just the beginning of what the Rooftop Terrace has to offer.
