Jackie and Neel celebrated their wedding over multiple days at the beautiful Griffin Gate Marriott Lexington KY.
For all my non Indian friends, let me describe a Sangeet.
A Sangeet is pretty much a big party held the night before the wedding day. Usually lots of the wedding guests attending the wedding also come to the Sangeet. The girls usually wear lehengas or sarees – gorgeous bright colored dress that look amazing on the dance floor! Often relatives of the bride and groom put on singing and dancing performances. Sometimes there’s a band, a DJ or both.
Not only is this hotel easily accessible from the highway with gorgeous golf course views, there’s also
the Historic 19th Century mansion! I can just picture an outdoor wedding right here on the lawn!
Family and friends arrived from Atlanta, Ohio, and as far as India.
Griffin Gate Marriott Lexington KY Sangeet
I was having the time of my life assisting Photography By Vinod with this wedding!
The staff at Griffin Gate had the grand ballroom all set up for dining and dancing.
I, not knowing the name of this Gujarati dance, called it the “whacking of the sticks dance”. After my friends laughed, they helped me out and told me the sticks are called Dandia. I also I learned that Dandiya Raas is the traditional folk dance form of Gujarat.
It’s a fast moving dance for any number of people and lots of fun.
This was my favorite moment of the whole night! Grandma danced right along with everyone!
The Garba dance is another fun one!
