The Venue at Lilly Lou’s The Pines

Why Couples love The Venue at Lilly Lou’s The Pines
Couples who choose Lilly Lou’s tend to care deeply about how their wedding day feels, not just how it looks. The venue is thoughtfully laid out, the lighting is consistent, and the entire property supports a smooth, stress-free flow.
This venue is especially well-suited for:
1. Couples who value timeless, natural wedding photography
2. Film photographers or anyone drawn to soft, even light
3. Destination weddings, with on-site lodging that simplifies guest logistics
4. Couples who want a strong rain plan without sacrificing a beautiful ceremony
It’s probably not the right fit: if you’re looking for a traditional barn venue or a hotel-style ballroom. Lilly Lou’s feels more like a peaceful woodland retreat designed with intention.

One thing that often surprises couples is how accessible the venue is. Although it’s located in North Alabama, most guests arrive through North Georgia, making it an easy option for couples planning from out of town.

Best Photo Spots at The Venue at Lilly Lou’s The Pines
This venue offers excellent variety without requiring additional travel time, which makes it ideal for relaxed timelines and unhurried portraits.
Favorite portrait locations include:
- The covered ceremony pavilion, which provides even light in nearly any weather
- The Tree Deck standing among tall pines
- The front of the greenhouse under the bistro lights
- Sunset portraits near the pond
Golden hour is especially beautiful here, but the greenhouse also offers gorgeous diffused light earlier in the day. One lighting note: the Tree Deck can receive strong directional light as the sun moves west in the afternoon, so timing (or working with a photographer familiar with the space) makes a noticeable difference.

Things to Know Before You Book
A few planning details couples often appreciate knowing ahead of time:
- Smaller weddings can park down at the venue; larger guest counts use parking at the entrance with shuttle service
- Some vendor categories require using the venue’s preferred vendors
- Touring in person is highly recommended, the flow and light make the biggest impact once you see it firsthand
Seasonality & Timing
Spring and fall are the most popular seasons, thanks to cooler temperatures and changing foliage. Summer ceremonies are best planned later in the day once the sun lowers and the shade from the pines sets in. Receptions remain comfortable thanks to the climate-controlled greenhouse.
One unique advantage of this venue is its ability to host a refined winter wedding, something that’s rare in this region. The greenhouse allows winter celebrations to feel bright, elegant, and intentional rather than dark or weather-limited.

From a Photographer’s Perspective
What truly sets Lilly Lou’s apart is how thoughtfully it’s designed. The owners, Lea and Rhonda, spent years working in the wedding industry before opening the venue, and it shows in the details.
The greenhouse reception space can be closed off before guests enter, keeping it clean and photo-ready. no last-minute clearing of coats or bags. Restrooms are centrally located between the ceremony pavilion and the reception greenhouse, which helps maintain a smooth guest flow.
The ceremony pavilion and greenhouse are both on one level and fully wheelchair accessible.
Cocktail hour takes place on a patio overlooking the pond, complete with a cozy fire pit for fall, winter, and early spring evenings. The bar is centrally located to serve both cocktail hour and the reception, keeping the evening social and efficient.
Receptions here offer two distinct experiences: soft daylight filtering through the pines earlier in the evening, followed by a magical, starry-night atmosphere once it gets dark, with greenery and lights strung across the ceiling. The space easily supports both energetic dance parties and more refined celebrations.

Some of my favorite moments here are the quiet ones — like couples standing back to back inside the greenhouse, reading private vows before their first look. Others are full of energy, like walking back down the aisle under hanging jasmine as newlyweds, with the low sun glowing behind them and friends and family cheering.
Photographer tip: This venue sits in a valley, and the light changes quickly throughout the day. Overcast or rainy days produce beautifully even light in the ceremony pavilion. On sunny days, the clear roof can create structural shadows at certain times, so thoughtful timing matters. Also, the string lights in the greenhouse can flicker — adjusting shutter speed or adding off-camera flash helps avoid issues.

The Story Behind the Name
Lilly and Lou were Lea and Rhonda’s grandmothers, women known for their love of hosting, setting a beautiful table, and gathering people together. Their influence inspired Lea and Rhonda’s first wedding decor business, and today that legacy lives on through the venue itself. Every wedding hosted here is designed with that same care, warmth, and hospitality.
