The Mill & Mine Wedding Guide: Photos, Planning Tips, and Knoxville Insights

Why Couples love The Mill & Mine
Couples are drawn here for its downtown convenience and the character of the space, think high ceilings, brick walls, and plenty of room to spread out. You can keep the industrial look or soften it with draping, greenery, and lighting.
This venue is ideal if you:
1. Have a large guest list (few Knoxville venues can match the capacity)
2. Love the look of exposed brick and urban backdrops
3. Want easy access to Knoxville landmarks for portraits
4. Appreciate both indoor and outdoor options in one spot
It’s probably not for you if:
You want a secluded countryside setting
You’re looking for an all-white, minimalist estate style

Best Photo Spots at The Mill & Mine
- On-site favorites: The big industrial doors, brick wall backdrops, Depot Street’s tree-lined section, and the sidewalk across from the Southern Railway Station
- Nearby gems: Tennessee Theatre marquee, World’s Fair Park, Riverfront Landing, perfect for adding iconic Knoxville touches to your gallery
- Timing tip: Late afternoon light works beautifully for a downtown photo walk before heading into the reception
Photographer’s note: Inside, light can be low since windows are only on two sides. Plan for additional lighting, especially for evening coverage

Things to Know Before You Book
- The space is big, balancing the darker brick with lighter linens or florals can make it feel warm and inviting
- Parking is limited to nearby streets and a city lot; many couples book a shuttle for guests and bridal party. The city lots about a block away are free for guests
- Vendor loading happens from Depot Street, and vehicles must be moved after unloading
- Catering is in-house, but ask about upgraded chairs and draping options. Outside décor vendors for draping and lighting are also welcome, and the venue offers its own rental add-ons
- Indoor ceremony backup is available if it rains. The ceremony can be held inside with a room flip for the reception
- A wedding planner is required
- The bridal suite is located on the mezzanine. It’s functional but has poor natural lighting, so plan your getting-ready photos accordingly
- Vendors can arrive starting at 8 am, unless you arrange an earlier time
- Saturdays are premium pricing days
From a Photographer’s Perspective
What I love most about photographing here is the breathing room, even with a huge guest list, you never feel cramped. One of my favorite moments was stepping inside just before guests entered: candles flickering, lush spring florals suspended from the ceiling, tables perfectly set. That quiet moment before the party starts is magic.
Pro tip for photographers: Build in time for city portraits. Couples choose The Mill & Mine because they want Knoxville in their photos, so give them that. And bring professional lighting for the dance floor since it gets dark fast once the party’s underway.
