Why Couples love Cottonwood Farms

Cottonwood Farms is the kind of place where country roots and heartfelt celebrations go hand in hand. It’s a favorite for couples who feel most at home under wide-open skies, those who simply appreciate the beauty of a life lived close to the land. Whether your guests arrive in floral dresses or polished western boots, they’ll feel right at home in this welcoming, down-to-earth setting.

Here’s what makes it special:

1. That view. The mountains to the east are breathtaking it’s hard to believe you’re still in Georgia.

2. Laid-back charm. It’s rustic, yes, but in a way that feels intentional and heartfelt.

3. The pond. A serene feature that adds depth to both the setting and your photos.

4. Warm hospitality. Lisa, Jill, and Nicole truly care from the first phone call to the last dance.

Best Photo Spots at Cottonwood Farms

This venue has some truly epic views especially if you time it right.

  • The patio: Perfect for the ceremony, with the mountains rising in the background.
  • The pond: Calm water, soft reflections, and wide open skies.
  • The farm road over the dam: A lesser-known gem for golden hour portraits with the mountain glowing behind you.

Lighting tip: Earlier in the day works best for soft, even light on the couple and the mountain. In the evening, the sun sets behind the barn, casting blue shadows across the patio but lighting up the eastern mountain in a warm glow. It’s stunning but definitely something to factor into your timeline.

Seasonal tip: A 4pm ceremony in summer will have completely different lighting than one in winter. If golden hour photos are important to you, check sunset times and plan accordingly.

Things to Know Before You Book

  • Call, don’t email: The email on their website may not work, so reach out the old-fashioned way.
  • Guest parking is roadside: Guests will walk from the pond or take a shuttle up to the venue. Vendor parking is more limited but has back access to the kitchen.
  • Room flip required for indoor ceremonies: In case of rain, plan for some extra time and help.
  • Draping can elevate the space: Ask Jill about this when booking it can make a big impact visually.
  • They have a curated list of vendors: You’re welcome to bring your own, but they also have solid recommendations of quality people who do a very good job.
  • Booking is personal: Jill or Novena will walk you through everything. You’ll set up a tour by phone, and bookings are done by mailing a check simple and heartfelt.

From a Photographer’s Perspective

I love photographing at Cottonwood Farms because it feels like I’m being let into a place that’s genuinely loved. The Cloer family originally built the venue for a family wedding, and you can feel that intention everywhere. Lisa is wonderful to work with kind, respectful of my time and creative process, and truly invested in making the day great for everyone involved.

Favorite moment? It’s a tie:

  • That “just-married” first kiss followed by joyful recessional on the patio with the mountains towering behind.
  • Quiet portraits along the road by the pond peaceful, personal, and full of heart.

Pro tips for photographers:

  1. Bring lighting gear the reception space gets very dark inside.
  2. For golden hour magic, head to the far side of the pond. Trust me.
